I'm running Panther on an iMac G3 400 DV with 768MB and no problems. If the memory is relatively new, I'd be inclined to suspect a memory problem rather than a problem with Panther. Perhaps reseating the DIMMs or running with a single DIMM might resolve/isolate the problem.
