It is more of a PC thing, since I run Jokedows 98 and Linux on my bintel machine, but my iMac can dual boot between Mac OS 9.1 and Yellow Dog Linux.
Mac OS was already on the hard drive, that I had partitioned so that there was space available for Yellow Dog. During the Installation process of Yellow Dog, a small program called a boot loader (LiLo - Linux Loader in this case), that will give me the option to chose Mac OS or Linux when I power up the iMac. You can also run Mac OS 9 in a Yellow Dog session via a vitual mac emulator. As John states, some apps won't run in the Mac OS emulator that normally run quite happily when booting inot Mac OS 9.
