Ahh - it's only for trackballs, joysticks and gamepad thingees, none of which I need or use. I was hoping that maybe it would work with external CD burners and other such things that Apple failed to provide any support for in OS X. Thanks for the link!
For CD burners, hard drives, etc., you use FireWire, not USB. If you have a scanner, try Vuescan, http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html
