Everytime he enters his password and clicks on login, the blue and white bar just keeps spinning. It won't let him into his account. The only way out of it is to shut the computer down with the power button. Then starting up again to get back to the login screen.
So I called Apple Care and explained the problem to them. The lady I spoke with had me try three things. First she had me disconnect everything but the mouse and keyboard. Then shut down and start up again while holding down the command-option p-r keys until I heard three startup tones. After the log in screen appeared, she told try getting into my sons account. But it was a no go. The blue and white bar spinned for a few seconds and the screen turned blue. But instead of getting into his account, I was taken right back to the main login screen, where everybody's names are listed.
Next she had me startup with the Mac OS X install disk and reset the password and restart. Same thing happened after I entered the new password. Blue and white bar spinned for a few seconds and I was taken back to the login screen.
The final thing we tried was to log into my account, go to Mac HD-Library-Preferences, drag to the trash the "com.apple.loginwindow.plist" file and restart. But it didn't help. Again when I tried getting into his account, the bar would spin and I was taken back to the login screen.
The lady from Apple suggested I create another account for him. But he does have some files saved that he would hate to lose. Before calling Apple I repaired permissions, but that didn't help either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
