Pardon my ignorance regarding the terminology on the slot-load iMac, but which board is the AV board? I'm used to seeing that used to describe Audio Visual I/O boards on machines like the 7600 or beige G3, but I'm pretty certain that we're not talking about the same thing here. Looking inside this iMac I see the main logic board, some sort of power supply board connected to the side of the main logic board, and then a large high-voltage power-supply board underneath those two boards (when viewing the machine upside-down, of course), wrapping around the sides of the machine and connecting to the back of the CRT. I assume that the board in question is the one underneath and connecting to the CRT - please confirm.

Thanks,
Ryan

I had a similar problem with my iMac. The AV board had to be replaced and has worked fine ever since.

I have just been given a dead iMac and I want to see if this thing is
worth fixing. It's a basic blueberry 350 MHz slot-load unit from
2000. The previous owner got a quote for $300 to replace some board,
although she didn't know specifically which board it was, and didn't
include the service quote with the computer. Since the machine was a
business expense and now fully depreciated she bought an iBook instead
of repairing this unit and gave this lump to me. The main symptom is
that, when the power button is pressed, the machine appears to start
(the power light comes on, I hear the startup chime, and the drive
spools up) but then shuts down a few seconds later. I never see
anything on the monitor. Is this a problem with the main logic board
or the analog board? The symptoms don't match anything I've dealt
with on rev. A-D machines (those have mostly been dead analog boards),
so I could use some advice here.

On a related note, if it is the main logic board that needs to be
replaced, is it possible (and relatively easy) to swap in a board from
a later DV model and get the FireWire connections and extra processor
speed? I know that I would have to cut out the opening for the
external video connector - are there any other modifications that
would be necessary?

Thanks, Ryan
