I am on dial-up internet access (for a few more weeks before we go
DSL). Our ISP has been experimenting with dial-up accelerators.
The one they are testing for Mac OS X clients is called
SlipStream.[..]

Today I dragged SlipStream to the trash and emptied it. Now I
cannot browse the internet. [..]

I dunno a lot about this but it sounds as tho' "SlipStream" has made some changes to your Network settings.

Look in SysPrefs/Network/Show -> Modem/Proxies.

Is "Web Proxy (HTTP)" checked? If so, uncheck it.

Mary

I did exactly what you said - it WAS checked - I unchecked it - now it works! Thanks so much! Can you explain to me what web proxy is?

Thanks,
Claire
