I'm new to the iMac.
Welcome, congratulations!
I recently purchased a used iMac on ebay. It's a 400 MHz DV iMac with 128Mb Ram and OS 9.0.4 installed. The seller has also provided 64Mb of additional ram (un-installed) and OS X. Can someone instruct me or direct me to a web page that explains how to install the additional ram.
There's nothing to it, Al.
1. Put a towel down on table.
2. With the iMac turned off *and disconnected from the mains,* tilt it gently onto it's screen (onto the towel).
3. Behold the bottom panel. Take a coin and open it, and voila! The RAM slots.
4. Making SURE you're static-discharged, add the additional RAM (actually, my advice would be to toss the 64MB chip and install a 256 or 512MB chip instead -- you'll thank me!) by pressing it into the empty slot.
5. Close panel, lock, turn machine back rightside-up, connect to electric power, turn on and go to the Apple Menu (top left corner of the screen) to see how much RAM is recognised.
Here's a PDF that will step you through it: http://www.peripheral.com/support/manuals/pdf/Manual%20iMac%20DV.pdf
Again, if your aim is to install OS X on this machine, I'd strongly suggest going with Panther (10.3.x) and a minimum of 512MB of RAM (a 512MB stick plus your existing 128MB stick should be fine).
