I have an indigo blue 400MHz slot loading DV iMac with OS9.2.2 installed, running on 320MB of ram. I have my 10GB internal HD at 89% of capacity. I have purchased an external firewire WD Caviar 120 MB, 7200RPM w/8mg cache HD.
Goal #1 is to partition the new drive and the "old" 10GB drive into smaller drives. I would like to then install OS10.3.x on a partition of the 10GB drive and keep that partition only as the OS "brain" all by itself on that partition. Goal #2 is to copy OS9.2.2 to its own partition and ALL current software files to the new 120GB HD in another partition. This is where all my non-OS software will reside. Can I drag and drop my Macintosh HD alias onto the 120GB drive once it appears on my desktop? I have been reading this newsletter for a while now and I think I need to boot from my system CD and then I may be able to copy all my 10GB HD onto the new HD into one of it's partitions. Will the "SliverKeeper 1.0.1" file that came with Roxio Toast Lite 5.2 help with this process? What do I need to to do to get all my extensions to copy to the new drive so it becomes a backup, bootable drive. I have also seen some strings a while back about updating my firmware prior to installing OS10. My system profiler says I have ROM version:$77D.456F6; Boot ROM version: $0004.19f1 and Mac OS ROM file version: 8.7. How and where do I get/check for any firmware updates for my system? Is there a step-by-step list somewhere I can follow to properly install OS10? A link to a website perhaps? -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
