I don't think I'd go that far. I switched to the Mac in 2001 when Windows Millennium Edition turned out to be one of the worst OS's that Microsoft EVER released. I had a 1 gig Gateway computer that crashed at the drop of hat. It would not play well on a home network. Most of the games that I had would run 'quirky' at best and I finally put Windows 98 back on it. This Gateway had an AMD processor and even running Windows 98 it was still a 'hit and miss' sort of thing when running it. My first Mac was the QuickSilver 867 and I simply connected my old VGA monitor to it. It ran 10.1 and was a JOY to work with. Never CRASHED and was always able to do what I needed it to do. I was SO impressed by Mac and the new OS that I forced everybody else in my family to switch too.
Now that we live in a PC Free home, we are more productive and computing is a joy. I WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO USING THE PC!
Apple support has been there when I needed them--for computer related issues (although I think I've only called them once).
That said, .mac is a totally different story. It is the one useless thing that Apple provides and if people ask me about it, I just tell them of my experience with it. But go back to PC because of the failings of .mac? NEVER!

I remember when a spontaneous and involuntary: "I love my Mac!" would come to my lips. No longer. Not since trying to resolve a similar problem with them.

If Gates ever gets his ordure gathered, I may go PC. (Never thought I'd say that.)

I signed up for a .mac account a while back. I ran into the problem that whenever I synced, I would get stuff downloaded from there that was either out of date or had been already deleted on my Mac. This was annoying as each time, I'd have to go back in and clean up the junk that .mac kept putting back onto my computer. I also wrote to them and got some vague answers. Not being satisfied with that, I called Apple and complained. They said, in effect, that it was not their problem and there was nothing they could do to help me. I cancelled my account with them and have not had any further problems.
Though there are some advantages to having a .mac account, the lack of support from Apple when you actually have a problem sort of negates the advantage.

HI,

I have been reading the imac list for about 1 year but have never asked a question but I'm very frustrated now and thought I would turn to all of you for some help.. I have a .mac account and put pictures of my Jewelry from iPhoto to my homepage , this all went together very well. NOW when I try to ANNOUNCE my site or Edit, delete or add you can not do any of these functions. I was able to before but for some reason now I can not do any of these functions. I work on Safari but I have tried, Internet Explorer and Netscape and the same thing happens. I have written to DOT.MAC 3 times and get the same answers from them. I did NOT know when I signed up for .mac that you could not speak to a REAL Person when you have a problem , you can only email them.. Do any of you have this problem and if not do you have any advice to correct this issue.. I thought this would be a easy way to get my Jewelry out until after I took a course in Web page building and then I wanted to try getting my products out to the big WWW..

Any HELP would be greatly appreciated Roxanna
