I'm glad I double checked before replying.

I had in fact set the drive for Master before I started working with it. 
Because I had another drive set as slave that I wanted to pull data from.

However, in my haste (and distraction with people trying to hold 
conversations with me when I was working on it), I didn't pay enough 
attention, and rather than setting the jumper to Master, I did in fact 
set it to Cable Select by mistake (same position, opposite ends of the 
pins).

Now the OS X Disk Util sees it and was able to partition it to a 7.5 GB 
for boot and the rest for data.

Thanks! Had you not asked, I probably would have spent a lot longer 
looking down other paths before tracing my steps and making sure I set 
the jumper correctly.
