The iMac doesn't seem to recognize it. At least the OS X Disk Utility
doesn't. Does it have to be partitioned BEFORE use.

How could it be partitioned before you use it? You have to access it in order to partition it.


I thought it was only
a booting issue that required the boot partition to be fully in the first
8 GB of space. Shouldn't the drive itself still be seen by the Disk
Utility so that I can partition it?


Or is the Rev A drive size limit lower than 80 GB? If so, what is the
limit?!?

I don't think the issue here is drive size at all -- I think you forgot to set the jumper correctly. IIRC, it should be set on Cable Select.
