You do have a couple of more options:
Since it is new, put it back in the packaging and take it to a major office
suppply store (like Office Max) and ask them if they will trade it for a
USB model.

Second, you could sell it on Ebay and get enough cash to buy a proper unit.

Third, you could hunt around on the net for someone that might want to
trade with you. Some PC user might just have a USB model that he wants to
trade for the Canon...

Just some options.
