Hello, Lifelong Mac user who's bought an iMac for the first time. I've purchased a well maintained iMac 233 from a good friend for my 6 year old daughter to use.
It has a 20gb hard drive which, of course, has been partitioned accordingly to run both OS X and OS 9.2.2. OS X is on the <8gb and OS 9 resides on the other. Classic works fine but when I restart with the OS 9.2.2 picked in the StartUp Disk Control panel the iMac will restart into a gray screen and just sit there. The only thing I can do to get it going again is to unplug the machine. Thinking it might be firmware, I checked that but it is current. Any ideas?
