My recollection is that, in the excellent ebook from TidBITS called, "Take Control of Upgrading to Panther", it is mentioned that this business of having to partition large internal hard drives so that the OS or OS's are installed on a partition no larger than 8 Gb and located at the beginning of the hard drive is an issue which only affects " early (Rev. A-D) iMacs".
