I've never tried it, but these should work just fine either with the combined or separate DVD Recorder and VCR. BUT, I'm sure that these DVD recorders all have copy protection built in, which means that you can copy your VHS home movies to DVD just fine, but if you try to copy a commercial VHS movie to DVD, it will come out with very poor quality. Another thing is that that the DVD recorders will probably not give you the same level of control of the final product as you would get if you did it on your computer.
