From: Kenneth Martin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: OS 8.1 vs 9.0 Date: Sat, 4 Sep 2004 08:44:37 -0500
This is not an iMac question, but I am sure some of you may know the answer.
I have upgraded the OS on my PowerBase 180 and on my 6400 to 8.1. (My eMac of course, uses Panther).
My question is this... is it worth it to upgrade these older machines to OS 9.0? Does anyone know what the major differences would be between the two? If it is worth it, is the additional memory requirement?
Thanks in advance Ken Martin
When I upgraded my PowerBase, I went to OS9 to get USB support so that I could use my new digital camera. At the time (late 2000) it was the only retail version available. Unfortunately, it broke support for my Laserwriter 310, and then the PC Compatibility card required another patch. OS 8.6 will also support USB. Later I maxed the RAM at 160MB, but it ran fine with 96MB.
