Hi there,

17" FP 1.25GHz iMac, running 10.3.5, Airport 3.4.3f.

A few days ago I read somewhere on the 'net some guys discussing the (irritating) fact that sometimes OS X does not recognise a mouse click first time round. After reading that, I realised that it was indeed an experience that I had had myself.

I kept a close watch on my mouse actions and I seemed to notice that one has to be rather precise when pointing the mouse in the Finder before double clicking. So I thought, maybe it's not as bad as those guys were saying.

Yesterday I got the Airport Extreme Base Station, which is now networking our two (soon to be three, new iMac G5 on its (delayed?) way soon...) Macs.

Everything is so far working very smoothly indeed. Setup was a breeze, the Samsung laser printer is unexpectedly working via the Base Station, that is, it is wirelessly accessible from our computers wherever they are in the house, which is brilliant, needless to say.

There is only one glitch. We're still on dial-up, as our local telephone exchange won't get broadband until March. To open up the connection, the quickest and neeatest way (in theory) is via the Aiport menulet in the menubar. Under the network menu, there is a submenu with the command 'connect'.

Now, while when clicking 'connect' from the Aiport pane in 'Internet connect' the connection is initiated immediately, if I select 'connect' in the Aiport menulet, typically, the first time I select it, nothing happens. Then I select a second time and the connection routine starts briefly and terminates. Third time lucky, and I'm in business. Sometimes it works at the second attempt. It's quite puzzling I must say. I'm very careful to go over the word 'connect' with the mouse, not just over the 'line', as it were.

I'm not quite sure whether this is related in any way to the 'double pump' OS X semi-bugs people have been complaining about, or whether it is Airport specific.

The iMac is otherwise perfectly behaved, all the software is updated, permissions repaired etc.

I was wondering whether anyone out there with a similar machine/setup has experienced the same problem.

Many thanks in advance,

Walter
