I broke my right arm the other day so I am having to make some adjustments in many areas.
I plugged an Apple Pro mouse into the left USB port on the keyboard to make things a little easier but that brings up a question about mouse clicks. But first I should say that I am using a 233 rev B iMac.

I thought that a " click and a half " of the mouse button on a folder, icon, or window would open the contextual menu the same way a control+click does. Maybe I am crazy or maybe it was a 8.x thing. Anybody have a clue? I would like to avoid buying a two button mouse but if I have to what would work with my setup? Hmmm, now that I think about it a scroll wheel would be nice :)

Click-and-a-half opens a spring-loaded folder in OS 8/9. If (as I guess) you are using OS 9, you can make the modifier keys "sticky" using the Easy Access control panel. You'll find this in CD Extras on your OS 9 disc.

A two-button mouse probably would make life a lot easier while your arm heals, and any bog-standard mouse will do if all you want is a second button: OS 9 will treat a right-click as a control-click. I don't think it will recognise extra buttons and scrolling unless the mouse is supplied with software.

I'm one of the few people who liked the reviled puck-mouse, and I used it happily for years, but after using a scroll-wheel mouse on a work computer, I got one for the iMac and I wouldn't go back. Even with two working arms, right-clicking for a contextual menu is easier and faster than reaching for the control key, since the latter usually involves setting down the coffee/beer/pizza/etc first :-).
