I think you have to burn the songs as a regular audio CD and then
convert that into mp3 before you can listen to it on your palm.  The
format Apple use is a proprietary format, unless you have an iPod...

I must correct that statement. MPEG 4 AAC is not a proprietary format. Apple is just an early adapter of the format that is from the same people or companies that brought you MP3 about twenty years ago. Broadcasters are using AAC also.
