This sounds like it might be a problem with an old profile. The way Firefox handles profile data has changed over the past 12 months, perhaps more than once, and it can cause trouble. Try deleting the old profile (~/Library/Firefox or ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox) and starting from scratch.

I couldn't get Firefox to work either. I finally gave up and am happily using Camino on my Rev. D iMac running OS X.2. It works pretty well, less buggy than Safari, and of course it's not MS so I'm happy!

I do use Mail - finally switched from Entourage some months ago.
