if you mean, is it difficult to physically replace it, then i'd say it's not that easy but it can be done. i'd get an engineer to do it if your not confident about delving an imac's innards.
60 euros sounds like bargain to me, but to make the most of it, if your prepared to replace the cd drive, then you might as well replace the hard drive with something big running at 72000 revs, and pack in as much ram as possible, otherwise OS X will be too slow.
Thanks. I don't really want to work on it, or anything. I just want to use it as a test drive for various early Mac OS X versions that don't run on my new PowerBook. Also, the fact that it's the original Bondi Blue iMac is a big factor. :)
(Of course, knowing me I'll probably fall in love with this and start investing... but that's a topic for future posts. :) )
I have about a decade of putting stuff in and out of PCs, but no Macintoshes. Would it be easy to open an iMac (do I need special tools, etc.)? Can I just put any IDE CD drive I want inside, or are there special requirements?
