Have you tried booting the iMac with the Shift key down, so that no Extensions load, and THEN trying to install the application? I am really not sure whether this is a good idea, since in some cases an application installer might be expecting to find an extension already in place in a certain location, or it might go ahead and install another copy of an extension that it finds "missing", but it's just a thought.
Another thought: Have you tried booting the iMac from some other device, such as an external hard drive (not sure if you have a Firewire port on the iMac) or from a bootable CD, and then running the application installer? Again, I am not sure if this is a good idea because some application installers tend to default to installing the application onto the boot volume rather than giving you the opportunity to tell it where you want the application installed. But again, it's just a suggestion.
I ordered Conflict Catcher but it still hasn't shipped. Wish I'd bought it when C&G were still in business. Sigh.
Not sure from what source you would have "ordered" CC since C&G went out of business, but if your source cannot deliver and you want to contact me offline, I think I might have an unused CC package I could sell.
