Can you actually boot from 9 if they are on the same partition?
I'm running 10.3 on a DV450 and it runs fine. Better than 10.2 did.
I wouldn't bother partitioning especially with such a small drive.
And yes you can boot from 9 on the same partition.
You will notice that OS X on your machine is not as "snappy" as it does with 9 though, but still usable.
