All I can say is that....Wait what kind on iMac do you have....anyway I leave my computer on at night and mine slowed down too. Scan you HD and see it there is any wired stuff on it. It might be spyware, but I'm not sure, and when you search, look in every folder you can, because spyware is very well hiddin.

Spyware is NOT, repeat NOT, an issue with Macintoshes. Period.

Much more likely an explanation is that one of the apps you leave on all the time has a memory leak. Periodically logging out and logging back in (say every day or so) will alleviate the problem, though of course not running whichever program is the RAM hog all the time will also cure the problem ...
