all you have to do to play AAC tunes on an older Mac is just
burn an audio CD of them, and then play the audio CD.

Or even easier, convert them to MP3 in iTunes and transfer the files to the older Mac.

The main thing is to have the "originals" stored in the best file
format possible and then tailoring the output to the device.
