Do you really think a 10 year old is going to go to some site and read about
netiquette and tolerated list behaviours ? Would you at that age ?
If I cared about being on that list, I believe yes, I would.
It's got nothing to do with turning it into a proving ground. My questions
were simply an attempt to draw Carmen into a productive discussion - and
teach him how to engage in appropriate netiquette along the way. How is
that wrong ?
What is wrong is that it is an iMac list and not a "we teach children how to survive on the Internet" list. Your way is exactly what I understand as a proving ground. I'd gladly see a productive discussion involving Carmen, but based on what I've seen, I am highly doubtful this is going to happen any time soon. In the meanwhile, you'd have all the people here suffering from collateral damage (and perhaps some of them unsubscribing as a result... I've seen that happen too many times to count).
If he's a troll - so be it - he'll get bored and move on but attacking each
other is not going to help matters. That's what trolls thrive on. Don't
make any more complaints about his spam or noise or whatever else you feel
he's doing to bother you and hit the delete key.
You can teach Carmen, fine, but I know my share about mailing lists. I was not criticizing Carmen, I was critizing your approach to him, and also suggesting what might be done. That suggestion was taking the necessary teaching process off the list.
Anyway, right now I am starting to fall into a typical trap -- I am now generating many off-topic messages myself. This will be the last one on this matter, though. I hope that the list nanny will know what to do better than me, which is usually true anyway. :)
