I've used it with a little stereo mic (such as used for small recorders, etc.) into my sound in jack, and it is really wonderful. I can record very good demo quality stuff just fine on a G3 400, use it often for band practices, etc. For sound effects type stuff, even the built in mic might be fine if you have one.
