Okay, my bad. There was ONE model of G4 iMac that booted into 9.
Actually, three: The 15" 700 Mhz, 15" 800 Mhz and the 17" 800Mhz all boot into OS9 and shipped that way for about a year after introduction at MWE in January of '02 . However, the 800 Mhz models shipped after February 4, 2003 and all iMacs thereafter did indeed lock out that ability.
