Hey all --
I just upgraded my wife (finally) to OS X on her iMac 333. I've been running OS X on my iMac 333 for a year. Last summer we got the 2Wire modem for our DSL which allowed us to both be online at the same time thru the phone lines.
Well, when I upgraded her iMac to OS X it wouldn't work with the 2Wire connector. I spent 5 hours, including an hour with tech support trying to get it to work. They said (maybe) the old powered USB connector might not have enough milliamps (2Wire connected to the phone line via USB).
Anyway, they suggested I put it back the way it was, which worked (OS 9.1), or upgrade to new hardware (i.e. buy new computers!!), neither of which was an attractive option -- or, upon questioning, admitted the whole setup might work if I hardwired ethernet cable thru a router.
So I bought a D-Link router and hooked everything up hard-wired using ethernet.
Now, I have the 2Wire modem going as the WAN ethernet to the router, then the two computers ethernet LANed to the router. And the two computers go on the Internet just fine!
But, neither computer does e-mail very well. With the Mail app, the "send" preferences keep bouncing around really weird. It's hit-or-miss. Also, when trying to check Hotmail, or Yahoo, or whatever, well, that doesn't work at all. We just get the uncompleted status bar, followed by a "page contains no data" message.
If I connect my computer directly to the modem, bypassing the router, it works fine.
I'm baffled -- if anyone knows what I need to do, please help!
Eddie
