I thought there was a release on ALL slot loaders... however, the tray loader is a mechanical release. The paperclip presses a latch releasing the tray lock so you can remove the CD. The slot loaders it is an electrical button. The button is pressed, and that tells the drive to eject the CD. The original reply said to do this with the power off... I was just pointing out that on the slot load drives, the power must be on if you expect an electrical eject mechanism to work.
