Actually, I did get a lot of porn email for a while, deleting them all, and never clicking "remove me". Someone told me that "remove me" actually works, so, since I was receiving a lot of spam anyway, I gave it a try. I was amazed that porn spam went to a virtual zero for quite a while. It's beginning again, so I'm looking for the "remove me" and clicking it.
I find it reduces it, but takes effort to keep up the unsubscribing, effort that doesn't really benefit me in the end. During the last 7 months I've tried long periods of attempting to unsubscribe from spam emails, then times when I'll just leave it to itself. I managed to get under 5-10 spam emails a day after unsubscribing from them all as they came in. That's a great deal better than those times when I stop unsubscribing, when over a fortnight spam would ramp up again to well over 100 a day, only going down if I started hitting the unsubscribe links once more.
That might sound good, but in the end I spent more time unsubscribing from those few spam emails that sneaked through than I did hitting the delete key on the others that slipped through Mail's spam filter :).
So in essence - unsubscribing worked really well for me in reducing the numbers of spam emails - but doesn't actually save time & effort, only bandwidth.
