had a similar problem, I think for DVD player it needs to be internal. If someone knows otherwise, please tell me.

Hello all - I installed a fresh factory boxed copy of OSX latest version and did all my software updates, etc. onto my non-DVD capable Mac. Everything has always been fine. I had an extra Apple brand DVD-RAM in the drawer from my G4-500 days and I finally got around to putting it into a firewire enclosure. I plugged it into the Mac and it immediately "saw" the "Barney" DVD in the new drive, but did not launch it. So I went to the Applications Menu to manually launch DVD Player and much to my surprise, it was not there! I am assuming that it was bypassed when I installed OSX on the machine originally due to the lack of a DVD drive at the time.
The question: how do I most easily and safely install just the DVD Player application from the OSX disc? And, if I am working from the OSX disc, which is of course a lower rev level than I now have on the machine, will I buy myself any trouble?
