SafeClean and SafeShred are both currently $25 (plus extra software for buying both) and offer a selectable number of passes using a variety of overwriting patterns. I'm not affiliated with company, just a satisfied user, given the caveat that I've not had to subject the results of their operations to professional scrutiny. YMMV.

The "overwrite N times" programs assume that the location of the file on the disk remains fixed. With a journaled filesystem, that doesn't have to be true. I wonder if someone that knows how the journaling in HFS+ works can comment?
