The antenna is inside the port where the RAM sticks are located. Put your iMac face down on a towel or other soft surface. Then use a coin or screwdriver to unlock the cover. Open the cover. Facing you will be two DIMM slots for RAM. Above those is the slot your Airport card will fit into. The antenna should be affixed to the left "leg" of the slot. Remove the antenna from the funny-looking holder and insert it into the round hole on the Airport card at the end opposite from the pins. Make sure you insert the Airport carrier correctly so its connector seats firmly into its mating part on the logic board. Couldn't be simpler, or easier. Heck, even I did it right the first time without benefit of instructions.

The iMac, if it is AirPort capable, will have an antenna. I myself have a slot lead ruby iMac SE DV, with an AirPort card, and have not had any problems. I don't know about any need of a fan, but would probably be a good precaution.
