Anything is possible. Now whether it's _feasible_ or not...
If all you have left, once you've "ripped the guts" out of the iMac, is a shell, then you'll have to fabricate a framework on which to mount everything. If you keep some parts of the original framework, you may be ahead because you'll at least have some mounting points.
Considering that the components you're putting into the iMac are smaller than what's coming out, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Making it look good is what would separate a cool project from a mere hack job, and that's completely up to you.
BTW, why a 14" screen. The original iMac had a 15" screen, so the hole in the front should be the right size for a 15" LCD, which is probably easier to find. Unless, of course, you already have the 14" one. ;-)

P.S. Don't take any advice from me about mounting stuff, etc. I'm dangerous around tools, so I've _never_ actually tried this myself, but I do appreciate good work.
