Hello all
I know i've read about this before, but now I've experienced it.
On my brand new 20" G5 iMac, running Tiger, I was attempting to
transfer my addresses from Eudora to the Mac's address book.
Something went wrong and now when I try to open the address book
all I get is a spinning beach ball .
Remembering some advice, I created a new user account and Voila!
- the address book works.
Good man! It's gratifying to see people learning to troubleshoot
their own machines.
I realize I can trash my old account and go with the new one, but I
thought there might be an easier fix.
Yeah, there's an easier fix:
First, you might try just locating the address book's preferences
(which should be located in YOURUSERNAME/Library/Preferences/
com.apple.AddressBook.plist and put that aside (put it in the trash,
but don't empty the trash yet), then relaunch Address Book.
If that doesn't solve the problem, find the folder called "Addresses"
which is also in your Library folder and put it aside in the same
manner. Now relaunch Address Book. You should have a new "virgin" app
with no addresses in it at all. You can try re-importing from Eudora
safe in the knowledge that if it goes wrong, you now know what to do.
If that DOES crash Address Book again, my suggestion would be to
instead export the addresses out of Eudora using some standard format
(I can't recall if Eudora does this, I assume it does) and then
importing the exported file into Address Book instead of going
"direct." That should do the trick.

Claiming that the Macintosh is inferior to Windows because most
people use Windows is like saying that all other restaurants are
inferior to McDonald's.
