I have recently bought a I mac g5 20"
I have no problem with screen angle, but I am disappointed all but
he highest resolution are no clearly in focus.
Try it in the lower resolutions to see what I mean.
Yes. This is true of **all** LCD screens. Try lowering the resolution
on ANY lcd and you'll see the same effect. LCDs are "set" at one
resolution and any other resolution is an "interpolation" that
produces approximate (ie, fuzzy) effects.
I confess I'm a little flabbergasted that some people don't know
this. It's one of the most fundamental differences between LCDs and
CRTs, and is not exactly secret knowledge.
If you're having trouble reading the screen on your iMac, there are a
number of options that will help you and keep the screen sharp and
clear (ie, no lowering of resolution). You can change Finder
preferences to make both the icons and the text below them larger.
You can adjust the "smoothing" of type by the OS in the "General"
system preference. You can also adjust the monitor to be closer to
you (LCDs do not emit harmful radiation at close distance the way
CRTs do). You can also tune the default size and font of your apps.
You can also use the Universal Access preferences to magnify the
screen and set other options depending on your vision problem.
Most of us have weakening eyes so we can relate to the problems of
being able to adjust LCDs to avoid "squinting" to read text, but the
sharpness, clarity and vibrancy of LCDs make up for the "small type"
quite nicely. I'm typing this on a 12" iBook G4 whose screen is about
four feet away -- I could never read this without my glasses, but
with em I'm fine.
