But the error isn't a media or servo failure -- it's a comms error. This could be more serious, a loose cable, interface failure, etc. You might want to do some help reading and kbase searching.

Good!  That means less of a chance it's cabling etc.

Definately try alternate media.

Personally, my fav is the generic stuff from Fry's (outpost.com). Seems to be very reliable.
