Hi Listers,

My iMac DV 400mhz (loaded with OS9 and Panther, but using 9 daily) is now having problems. When I turn it on using the front panel power button it boots but no video. I can hear the drive and fans etc. To get video I have to hold in the power button until it turns off and than hit it again and
than it boots "with" video.

Since I knew my clock battery was dead I thought the video problem was from that. But today I put in a new battery (yes I tested it first) and on the
first boot I didn't get video agian. I had to hold down the button and
restart to get video.

Back in late 2000 the P.A.V. board was changed under Applecare. Could it be
this again or some other issue?

Thanks,

MaxTek

MaxTek,

Is the firmware updated to version 4.1.9? This can cause a video problem. When this video problems happens, can you activate the display by pressing the power button on the front of the machine to put it to sleep, then press the space bar to wake it up? What about an external display connected to the VGA port on the back of the iMac?

Try downloading and running the iMac Firmware Updater 4.1.9. <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75130> If the firmware is updated, it will tell you so and not do anything else.

DO NOT reset the PRAM if you do not have the most current firmware. See <http://www.gileskennedy.com/panthereatsimac> GIles Kennedy's Firmware/ Video problem solver for more detailed information.

It is possible that the firmware is not the problem, and I am way off base here.

Good luck,
