Hmmm.. I just fixed a iMac DV .. had a bad RAM DIMM. Have anything to swap it with? As soon as I took out the bad one, booted right up and ran like a champ.

Hi Listers,

My iMac DV 400mhz (loaded with OS9 and Panther, but using 9 daily) is now having problems. When I turn it on using the front panel power button it boots but no video. I can hear the drive and fans etc. To get video I have to hold in the power button until it turns off and than hit it again and
than it boots "with" video.

Since I knew my clock battery was dead I thought the video problem was from that. But today I put in a new battery (yes I tested it first) and on the first boot I didn't get video agian. I had to hold down the button and
restart to get video.

Back in late 2000 the P.A.V. board was changed under Applecare. Could it be
this again or some other issue?

Have you tried resetting the logic board (i.e., pushing the cuda button for 20 seconds or so), then doing a PRAM reset (hold down Control, Command/Apple, P and R keys, and do it at least through 3 startup chimes) while booting? If this doesn't work with AC power plugged in and the PRAM battery in place, try it again with the AC power unplugged and with the PRAM battery removed. Your symptom sounds like corruption caused by the dying PRAM battery, rather than a bad P.A.V. set of boards. Or it could be a switch going bad, but I'm betting on the PRAM/logic board reset.
