While the trayload iMacs do indeed use slim laptop-style optical drives,
my daughter's 400MHz iMac SL doesn't use a standard slim formfactor
drive. The shape is different and the interface connector is on the wrong
(opposite) side. Perhaps later SL iMacs used 'standard' slim drives? I've
got some slotload combo drives and they won't fit without a bit of
hackage. The way I see it, one needs fabricate (or source?) a mounting
bracket adapter, as well as a cable adapter (or a different cable.)

Has anyone installed a 'standard' slim drive in a SL iMac? Anyone been
here, done this?
