Comcast broke something. Looking thru my logs, I see that the
servers were failing to connect for 4+ hours a week ago. And since
that time, I'm seeing 4x the normal rate of spam on my Comcast email
accounts.
I just forwarded some details about this to a guy that works in their
abuse dept. Hopefully, he can stir the coals. heh.
however, the thing that confuses me, is they all have
To:"Samurray" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
in the source of the email.
but my email is [EMAIL PROTECTED], not [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and some of them even have variations like [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
so why are these emails being sent to me if that is not my email address???
a) it's a dictionary type attack.
b) the ONLY header in an email that can be trusted is the Received
header on the very TOP of the email. ALL other headers can be
forged, and are not actually used to address messages. The actual
addresses are sent as commands to SMTP server directly; a transaction
you never "see".
