Hello,

My iMac G5 has started to make nasty little noises. This Mac makes me very nervous since I bought it in May 2005. The processor seems to have many ups and downs. For some reason it revs up then goes down.

Processors don't normally make noise.

You mean you're hearing a fan or a HD? Try to figure out which...

Change the energy saver settings to not sleep. See if that changes things.

Also, I hear some faint "disk scratching" noise at times.

Do you leave your Mac running all the time?

OS X does various maintenance tasks in the background when you're idle. One of those things is a defragmentation of the HDs - which begins to occur more frequently as you use your machine more and more.
