I'm ready to roll with a web system that will allow us to see and
talk with folks a long long way away, over the internet.
iChat AV is built into panther, and I've upgraded my simple little
iMac 233 to panther 10.3.9, and am ready to purchase.
To be blunt, you are absolutely dreaming if you think you will ever
get video beyond 1 frame per second on such a machine.
It's just not going to happen. It's not just the speed of the
processor, it's that plus a dozen other subsystems from RAM to bus
speed. It ain't going to work.
It's (long past) time for a newer machine. Macs of capable vintage
can be had quite cheaply (heck, the Mac mini is a great value if you
have a screen and kb/mouse already!), and you're more than due for an
upgrade.
