Yes, in both cases, a shared printer is only available on a powered  
up, awake computer.

This is a common complaint, we have a number of labs who share a  
printer in this fashion, and we're always getting calls: "I can't  
print!" "Did someone turn off the computer the printer's attached  
to?""Oh, yeah..."
