Yes, OS X does use VM - it's Unix, afterall.

Unlike Windoze, the memory management system in Unix is quite 
efficient... So moving the swap files to a different hard drive will 
improve overall system performance *ONLY* if your system is horribly 
memory poor in the first place.  This is not the case for most users, 
so we rarely recommend it.

If your system's page out rate is that high, all the time, buying 
more RAM would be a better investment...

Yes.  I think there are instructions for doing so on macosxhints.  I 
strongly DO NOT recommend it unless you have a bad paging problem 
(memory poor).


OS X is NOT Windows.  THINK DIFFERENT.
99% of the time trying to wedge a Windoze fix into OS X is a Bad Idea.
