No, the solution is to replace the drive...this is a classic sign of a  
failed drive. The problem is that working on those $...@^#%%@$! G4 iMacs  
is a monumental PITA. I don't touch 'em anymore, tell people to take  
'em to an outside Apple repair place.

You can get an external FW drive that will work for both booting and  
burning purposes.
