Good: conserves electricity

Bad: Macs, need to run Onyx occasionally to run the periodic
maintenance scripts when it's awake.

Disputed: It has long been contended that repeatedly starting up and
shutting down put more stress on components, but that's never been
conclusively proven; also modern circuitry and components are better
able to handle things like this.(for example, drive platters are
lighter, as are the rest of the drive mechanics, so less mechanical
wear).

Honestly, it's a good idea.
