We are a bit off topic - but 100W light bulbs - I am in California, and almost all of my home is florescent. And for the most part, it works great. However, I want the choice of being able to use incandescent where I want too. For example, I have incandescent in the dining room, in a fixture I rarely use, halogen on the stove, and a few night light type bulbs where florescent has not worked well.
Another thought is that lighting is linked to depression often, and reading requires a light that is pleasing to your eye - younger or older - I have always felt that if Grandpa needs a certain light bulb that makes reading his book much more enjoyable - then he has the right to pay a few dollars more a year in utility bills, and be able to enjoy his reading. LED lights I have played with a bit - the first night lights were terrible, the light went straight up, and not out in a pleasing matter as with a regular bulb. I do have one LED that works well by my computer desk to illuminate my water glass, and to illuminate a bit of the floor as I have a 20 year old dog, and elderly cat - the dog needs light to get up and down on the bed, and to get around safely. On my bondi Imac I never had a problem with putting it to sleep, and my monitor stayed nice and bright for years, until I set it up for a friend, and upgraded.
