I don't think that you need to do all of that --- To check -- COPY  
the OSX system folder someplace for safekeeping. --- do the OS9  
install --- check that OS9 works --- try booting OSX [should work. If  
it does you are finished, the extra copy made of the OSX system can  
be disposed of at your leisure.
